Why did you choose to do a PhD?

I choose to do a Ph.D. because I can have more time to explore and do projects in the field I am interested in.

Why did you choose to do graduate education at NUS? If you received offers from other universities, why did you pick NUS?

NUS is one of the top universities in the world, and CSI has excellent resources in cancer research, which makes me believe I can learn a lot from my Ph.D. journey.
CSI also offers a chance to rotate in three labs. It is an excellent opportunity to learn from different labs and know what you want to do in your future study.

How does graduate school compare to your undergraduate experience?

Studying in undergraduate school is more like absorbing knowledge from textbooks, while graduate studying needs more effort to explore and discover things that are not recorded in books.

Briefly share about your research or thesis (i.e. dissertation topic for Masters by Coursework students).

Explore and discover genes that may regulate the (epi)genomics change in gastric cancer, which could answer current questions in cancer studies, such as tumorigenesis, metastasis, and drug resistance.

What impact do you hope to have with your research?

I hope to find novel cancer drug targets or reveal unknown mechanisms underlying cancer development.
