"Do you know that the harder thing to do and the right thing to do are usually the same thing? Nothing that has meaning is easy, "Easy" doesn't enter into grown-up life." --- Michael Caine

In retrospect, would you still have chosen to do a PhD? Why?

Doing research that I like and teaching students what I know are always my dream job, so without a Ph.D. degree these are just impossible.

On hindsight, would you still have chosen NUS to do your PhD?

I finished my Ph.D. at CQT, NUS for three and half years only. In retrospect, my Ph.D. journey was so smooth simply because of the freedom and all the resources provided by CQT and NUS.

On hindsight, would you have chosen the same research topic for your PhD?

My research for the Ph.D. degree was on the characterization of quantum systems, which is a basic yet very important step in almost all quantum information processing tasks. So, I continue spending quite a lot of time working on this topic even now. We have made several useful contributions to this direction, for instance, the introduction of error regions in quantum tomography for the first time.

On hindsight, would you have chosen the same research supervisor for your PhD?

My supervisor Prof. Berthold-Georg Englert provided me with his tireless support throughout my undergraduate study as well as Ph.D. candidature in Singapore. I am deeply grateful for his invaluable guidance, as well as his passion, wisdom and insights in Physics that inspires and encourages me always.

How did NUS prepare you for your career?

NUS is very recognizable in the world, especially in academic. The benifits with a NUS degree are just countless, although sometimes you may not even notice it.

Any other words of wisdom to share?
