The Master of Science in Quantitative Finance by coursework is a postgraduate programme offered by the Department of Mathematics with the cooperation of the Department of Economics and the Department of Statistics and Data Science.

As financial markets become more complex and sophisticated, higher level mathematical knowledge is required to better understand and analyze financial models and products and to mitigate risk. In the past thirty years, quantitative finance has developed into an active and fully-fledged branch of mathematics. The objective of the programme is to provide advanced coursework-based training in quantitative finance. Graduates of the programme are expected to acquire advanced knowledge in quantitative finance which will enable them to meet the growing demands by the financial sector for professionals with in-depth knowledge in quantitative finance. Elective courses offered by the Department of Economics and the Department of Statistics and Data Science provide the opportunity for the student to broaden and deepen his understanding of the background and implications of the use of quantitative methods in the financial industry..

Target Audience
  1. An applicant must possess or expect to obtain an Honours degree (or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree) in a discipline with strong quantitative training such as mathematics, statistics, economic, finance, computer science, engineering, physical sciences, or equivalent degrees with strong mathematical background.
  2. An applicant whose medium of undergraduate instruction is not English is required to submit TOEFL (with a minimum score of 85 for the internet-based test) or IELTS (with a minimum score of 6.0).

Either TOEFL or IELTS is required for students whose main language of undergraduate university instruction is not English. Waivers may be granted to students who are native English speakers or proficient in English but are currently enrolled in a non-English medium university. Test scores for the TOEFL and IELTS are valid for 2 years from the test dates. TOEFL and IELTS Academic scores that have expired by the time the application period closes will not be accepted.
