Vote for Philippe Vachon (Finalist; NUS College of Design & Engineering) during the 2022 Asia-Pacific Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition on 19 Oct 2022!

13th October, 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has turned the Antigen Rapid Test (ART) into a ubiquitous household product. However, what you might not have known is that the ART is an example of a “lab-on-a-chip” device, a miniaturized laboratory built on a glass or plastic chip a few square centimetres in size. That was the topic of Philippe Vachon’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) presentation titled “Lab-on-a-Chip? – Sounds Amazing!”

Philippe, a PhD student from the NUS College of Design and Engineering, is developing a lab-on-a-chip (LOC) that uses sound waves to detect diseased cells based on physical properties that distinguish them from normal cells. He envisions a future where LOCs will become a common rapid diagnostic test for a range of diseases, from COVID to cancer. Click here to watch his 3MT video.

Two judging panels evaluated 57 video submissions from universities across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. Of the 9 finalists selected by the panels, Philippe is the only one representing an Asian university.
The 3MT Asia-Pacific Final will be held virtually on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, from 12-1pm (SGT) / 2-3 pm (AEST). There will be a

People’s Choice Vote during the live webinar, and a $1000 (AUD) prize will be awarded to the competitor with the most votes. So, please register now to attend the webinar and support Philippe with your vote! If you have any queries, please contact the NUS 3MT Coordinator, Dr Rafi Rashid (ngsrr@nus.edu.sg).
