Why Did You Choose To Pursue A PhD?

PhD is a great platform for deep diving into research, it pushes me to be more proactive and responsible for my own learning journey.

Why Did You Choose To Pursue Your PhD At NUS?

The nursing research expertise in NUS complements my nursing background and hopefully through this experience it will shape me into the nurse scientist that I aspire to be. Research here is very collaborative, there are opportunities work with people from other faculties/disciplines.

Can you tell us briefly about your research topic?

I am exploring the area of telemedicine in the community.

Why did you choose to do this research for your PhD?

In the post-COVID-19 era telemedicine will take center-stage and I am interested to find out how it can be practiced as an alternative healthcare delivery model to supplement primary care.

How does PhD graduate education compare with your undergraduate experience?

There are more thought-provoking discussions during classes, going beyond the scope of what is required to be taught.

What do you like most about graduate school?

I love the social interaction with people from other backgrounds. Everyone has different life experiences and I enjoy listening to their personal stories.

What challenges have you faced during your stint as a PhD student?

Stepping out of my comfort zone to network and explore my topic of interest with people from different healthcare institutions, but it has been an opportunity of growth for me.

Any highlights you'd like to share with us about your PhD life?

1. Having friends who go through this tough but fulfilling journey together. We have a good support network here!

Can You Tell Us Something Fun About Your PhD Journey In NUS?

Sharing jokes with my PhD classmates and buying each other snacks in school.

Any advice for someone who's considering a PhD in NUS?

1. Set realistic expectations for yourself.

2. Do not feel guilty for taking short breaks to recharge, in fact you may even be more productive.

3. Journal down what you have done every day so you can look back on the progress that you have made.
