Brief Description of Research:

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the the top killers in developed nations and in Singapore. It is a complex disease with genetic and environmental risk factors contributing to its etiology. There are several ongoing projects being conducted in our Cardiovascular Genomics Lab. Some of these examine the contribution of specific genes that confer susceptibility to CAD. Of interest is also patients who suffer a heart attack at a very young age (<40 years). The methodologies involve in these studies include genome-wide association study (GWAS), next-generation sequencing, gene expression profiling and other standard molecular genetics techniques such as DNA extraction, real-time PCR, genotyping and DNA sequencing. There is also a study that characterize a novel protein that plays a role in CAD. The common objectives of these projects are to determine and understand the contributing genetic factors to CAD and to develop methods to better predict the disease risk.
