Margaret Wang Memorial Master's Scholarship

The Margaret Wang Memorial Master’s Scholarship was set up by Professor Wang Gungwu, in loving memory of his wife, Mrs Margaret Wang. Professor Wang hopes to encourage research on literature, specifically the works of Southeast Asian writers who write in Chinese or English.

Other Eligibility Criteria

  1. To be awarded to a deserving Master’s by research candidate from the Department of Chinese Studies or Department of English, Linguistics and Theatre Studies doing research on writers (1) from Southeast Asia or (2) who work in/on Southeast Asia OR;
  2. A deserving Master’s candidate in Sinology, from any FASS department.
  3. Preference will be given to Singaporean and Malaysian candidates

*The typical award period for Master's (Research) Students are 2 years.

*CPF will be given on top of the stipend amounts for Singapore Citizens.

  1. Up to $20,000 per year per scholarship ($10,000 per semester) will be awarded. This should cover the tuition fees and the balance, if any, will be credited to your bank account.
  2. A monthly FASS Graduate Teaching Fellowship (GTF) stipend at S$2,300 – S$2,400. This will be at the discretion of the Department.
  3. A grant of S$3,000 per candidature to be used for academic purposes related to the recipient’s research.

Other Terms and Conditions

The Scholarship is tenable for one (1) year in the first instance and thereafter may, subject to the recipient’s satisfactory progress, be renewed each semester at the University’s discretion. The maximum period of the Fellowship is two (2) years for Master’s candidates.
