Sponsorship of Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)
for Spouse/ Child of
Full-Time International Graduate Research Students
The spouse and/or child (unmarried and below the age of 17) of full-time international graduate research students* may obtain sponsorship from the University for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) to stay in Singapore.

Application should only be submitted after the student has registered with the University and obtained a Student’s Pass. Please follow the steps below for the LTVP application. Incomplete documents or applications may result in processing delays.

* For graduate coursework students and Duke-NUS students, please refer to the respective Faculty/School’s web page or administrator regarding sponsorship matters.
LTVP Application Process

Step 1: Documents Submission
Please send the required documents to NUS Graduate School (NUSGS) via email at GradEnquiry@nus.edu.sg for endorsement.
  1. Application for University’s Sponsorship of Long-Term Visit Pass for Spouse and/or child.
  2. Undertaking for University’s Sponsorship of Long-Term Visit Pass for Spouse and/or child.
  3. Form 14 - Downloadable from ICA Website.
  4. A copy of Student’s Pass (STP) of the graduate student.
  5. A copy of the marriage certificate (if applying for spouse).
  6. A copy of the child’s birth certificate (if applying for child).
  7. A copy of the spouse’s and/or child’s passport.
  8. A copy of the insurance policy for hospitalisation and personal accident coverage of each spouse and/or child to be sponsored. (Note: It is mandatory for students to take up personal accident and hospitalisation insurance through the University for each sponsored person.   9. Administrative Fee and Deposit Payment Form and an official receipt for the following payment(s) made:
    • S$20 administrative fee per application (non-refundable regardless of the application outcome or if the application is withdrawn after submission)
    • Full-time international graduate research students not in receipt of the Research Scholarship or President’s Graduate Fellowship, will have to furnish a deposit of S$5000 for each dependent to be sponsored. The deposit will be refunded (less deduction of any expenses or damages) upon the University being satisfied that the spouse and/or child is no longer in Singapore or that the LTVP has been cancelled.
Note: The spouse and/or child will have to go for a medical examination if the cumulative period of stay in Singapore is six months or longer.

  5.     • Full-time international graduate research students not in receipt of the Research Scholarship or President’s Graduate Fellowship, will have to furnish a deposit of S$5000 for each dependant to be sponsored.     • With effect from January 2023, the University will waive the requirement of S$5000 security deposit for any request of an extension of spouse/child LTVP for Year 5 or 6 PhD students who are under the Student Research Assistant (SRA) and Short-Term Work (STW) schemes. These students would be required to sign on the Undertaking for University’s Sponsorship of Long-Term Visit Pass for Spouse/Child.
  1. Incomplete forms or documents may result in non-acceptance or delay endorsement.
  2. For a list of countries whose nationals require a visa to enter Singapore, please refer to ICA website.
  3. Official translations of the documents are required if these are not in the English Language.
  4. NUS sponsorship of the spouse and/or child of a full-time graduate student who is not a Research Scholar is up to the maximum period of his/her candidature, subject to the placement of a refundable deposit of S$5000 per dependant with the University.
  5. Students should refer to ICA website for the most up-to-date information, including the list of countries whose nationals require a visa to enter Singapore.
  6. Dependants' Insurance Renewal:
    • Please note that the insurance for hospitalisation and personal accident coverage for your spouse/child under the LTVP must be renewed on a yearly basis. Students are responsible for monitoring the policy duration and ensuring timely renewal through the University’s appointed insurance agency - MYCG. The University will not be held responsible for any complications arising from lapses in coverage.
    • Students may receive an email notification from MYCG regarding renewal. Otherwise, please contact MYCG at least one week before the expiry date at nus@mycg.com.sg or +65-8118 6924.
    • After renewal, please send a copy of the updated insurance policy to GradEnquiry@nus.edu.sg

Step 2: Submit the Online Application via ICA Portal
Once you receive the endorsed documents and sponsorship letter from NUSGS, submit your application via Long-Term Visit Pass | FormSG.
  1. NUS Sponsorship Letter.
  2. A copy of the spouse’s and/or child’s passport.
  3. Children's birth certificate (if applying for child).
  4. Marriage certificate (if applying for spouse).
  5. A copy of Student’s Pass (STP) of the graduate student.
  1. Incomplete forms or documents may result in non-acceptance or delay in processing at ICA. NUS will not be responsible for ensuring the completeness of the information submitted by applicant.
  2. Please note that the ICA application portal allows a maximum of three uploads. Applicants may combine some of the required documents into a single PDF before uploading.
  3. ICA will email the outcome directly to the student/ applicant. The general processing time is up to six weeks from the date ICA receives the online application. Please note that some applications may require a longer processing time.
  4. For any assistance with the LTVP application status or the ICA application portal, please also submit your queries through Long-Term Visit Pass | FormSG.
  5. If your spouse/child is in Singapore before obtaining the LTVP, please monitor the validity of the Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP). If an extension is required, please apply online via ICA’s portal to avoid overstaying. For more information, refer to ICA’s website: https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-depart/extend_short_stay.
Step 3: Submission of LTVP Copy to NUSGS
Within two (2) weeks of obtaining the digital LTVP, please email to GradEnquiry@nus.edu.sg.
  1. Digital copy of LTVP
  2. Provide the student’s name, faculty/department, and student ID.
Cancellation / Expiry of LTVP
When the LTVP is no longer required, the student/ applicant must:
  1. Submit a cancellation request via ICA’s online Cancellation of Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) form. ICA will confirm the outcome by email within three working days.
  2. Forward the ICA cancellation confirmation email, along with the student’s and dependant’s details, to GradEnquiry@nus.edu.sg.
To request a refund, students must:
  1. Submit a copy of the documentary proof via email to GradEnquiry@nus.edu.sg, showing that the LTVP holder (spouse and/or child):
    • is no longer in Singapore; or
    • has changed from an LTVP to a Dependant's Pass or another type of pass.
  2. Confirm that the credit bank account details in the Education Records System (EduRec) are valid.
  1. If your spouse and/or child is in Singapore during cancellation, ICA may issue a Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP) upon successful cancellation of the LTVP. If no STVP is issued before the LTVP expiry date, they will need to leave Singapore to avoid overstaying.
  2. Student/ applicant must submit a cancellation request via ICA’s online Cancellation of Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) form under the following circumstances:
    • Student’s candidature is terminated/withdrawn;
    • Student converts from full-time to part-time study;
    • Student’s research scholarship has ended and they choose not to furnish the deposit;
    • Student’s conferment of the degree.
