Why did you choose to do a PhD?

I have always been fascinated by biology. A PhD program gave me the opportunity to apply computer science (where I obtained my undergraduate degree) to biological questions, thereby working on scientific questions that no one has worked on before.

Why did you choose to do graduate education at NUS? If you received offers from other universities, why did you pick NUS?

NUS is a great place to study and work for the following reasons:
1) The people and the research infrastructure is outstanding;
2) The graduate school offers extensive support through the PhD journey; and
3) Singapore is a great place to live and the NUS campus offers a large variety of activities for students.

Briefly share about your research or thesis (i.e. dissertation topic for Masters by Coursework students).

Using computational biology, I studied molecular processes involved in the formation and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma, one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide.

What impact do you hope to have with your research?

Advance knowledge in hepatocellular carcinoma and therefore contribute to better diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients.
