Academic Credentials: Earned a DDS (1987), Ph.D. (1993), Dr.Odont. (2000), and Odont.Dr. (h.c.) (2013).
Research and Publications: Research has advanced understanding of peripheral and central mechanisms of orofacial pain, neuroplasticity, trigeminal motor physiology and jaw function, bruxism, quantitative sensory testing, electrophysiology, brain imaging, and temporomandibular disorders. Over 600 original research articles, reviews, and book chapters have been published, with a recognized H-index of 77. Contributions to the development of international classifications and guidelines for pain, headache, orofacial pain, and bruxism have been acknowledged.
