Weiqing Ren (任维清)is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He received his PhD from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, in 2002. Before joining NUS, he held positions at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University, and the Courant Institute. His research interests are in applied mathematics and scientific computing, with a focus on rare events, multiphase flows and moving contact lines.Â

Research InterestsÂ

Professor Ren’s research interests are in applied mathematics and scientific computing, with a focus on rare events, multiphase flows, and the moving contact line problem. Â His work has contributed to establishing mathematical foundations and developing effective computational methods – such as the string method – for studying rare events, as well as resolving the moving contact line problem, a long-standing problem in classical fluid mechanics, through modelling and simulations.

Professor Ren has served on multiple committees at NUS, including the Faculty Promotion and Tenure Committee and the University Promotion and Tenure Committee. He has been chairing the Search Committee in the Department of Mathematics and currently serves as the Deputy Head (Research and Academic Affairs) of the Department. He is also an Associate Editor of the SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics.
