Dr Hu an associate professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, NUS and a consultant of paediatric dentistry at the National University Centre for Oral Health. He conducts a range of research from laboratory studies, clinical studies, qualitative studies, population health studies, to cost-effectiveness studies contributing to the area of paediatric dentistry. Additionally, he has interest in education research for undergraduate and post-graduate education.
Dr Hu has specific interest in the use of Silver Diamine Fluoride in managing caries. This is in addition to a variety of discipline (Paediatric dentistry) related research that spans from clinical studies, population based studies, qualitative studies and lab-based studies. Another area of interest is the relationship of the oral microbiome in health and disease, with a specific interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Dr Hu is currently the undergraduate module coordinator for Paediatric dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore. He also conducts research into teaching methodology and pedagogy to improve on the teaching of paediatric dentistry for dental students. He has published research in the use of virtual reality for teaching in the undergraduate curriculum.
