NUS Malay Studies Graduate Scholarship
The NUS Malay Studies Graduate Scholarship was established in 2016 with the aim of nurturing expertise on the Malays in the region.

Other Eligibility Criteria
- Male applicants who are Singapore citizens must have completed full-time National Service.
- Applicants should possess a high level of proficiency in both Malay/Bahasa Indonesia and English.
- The Scholarship will be awarded based on academic performance. Applicants must have obtained a CAP (Cumulative Average Point) of at least 4.0 (or equivalent) in their BA or BA Honours in Malay Studies and/or other relevant disciplines.
- Financial need (based on indicators such as family per capita income indicator) will be the deciding factor for breaking ties.
- Students holding full scholarships from NUS/non-NUS organisations covering tuition fee and stipend are not eligible for the NUS Malay Studies Graduate Scholarship. Students who are granted the Tuition Fee Allowance and/or appointed under the Graduate Tutor Assistant or Graduate Researcher Administrative Assistant schemes are eligible for the Scholarship. Subject to consent from the awarding Committee, students awarded the NUS Malay Studies Graduate Scholarship are allowed to hold other bursaries/awards from non-NUS organisations.
- The Scholarship recipient’s research must be related to any aspect of Malay society and institutions. Research on Malay culture in Southeast Asia is encouraged.
Stipend Details
*The typical award period for PhD Students are 1 years, Master's (Research) Students are 1 years.
The one-time Scholarship is valued at up to $12,000 and tenable for one year only. The award will be disbursed in two tranches of up to S$6,000 each at the beginning of the semester.

Other Terms and Conditions
- The Scholarship is non-renewable. Up to two (2) Scholarship may be awarded in any given year subject to available funding.
- The Head of Department may adjust the value of the Scholarship in such a manner as he/she deems fit, subject to sufficiency of funds and/or available income and the University’s prevailing spending policies.
- The Department Scholarship Selection Committee, comprising the Head (Committee Chair) or nominee and the Department Graduate Coordinator, will shortlist, interview and award the Scholarship.
- No Scholarship will be awarded unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Applicants may apply for the scholarship within their admissions application through GradApp and fulfill additional scholarship application requirements stated there.
- The Scholarship recipient must have been successfully admitted into the MA or PhD by research programme (full-time) at the Department of Malay Studies.
- Incoming graduate students should indicate their interest in the Scholarship by submitting this application form in their application for admission.
- Current students should indicate their interest in being considered for the scholarship by completing and submitting the application form to the Programme Administrator within the application period above.
