MBI PhD Research Scholarship

The MBI Graduate Programme aims to train students in interdisciplinary research and collaborative science, leading to a PhD through research in mechanobiology. MBI is looking for outstanding local and international students with diverse backgrounds in STEM fields. Students will be supported throughout their research project by our fully staffed open-lab and have access to latest research technologies in microscopy and bioimage analysis, micro and nano-fabrication and high-throughput molecular genomics.

All students admitted to the MBI PhD programme will be offered a full scholarship for up to four (4) years.

Other Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have solid foundations in science (either biomedical or physical) or engineering; with good quantitative, communication and critical thinking skills, adventurous, resourceful, and self-driven.

*CPF will be given on top of the stipend amounts for Singapore Citizens.

Only for new, incoming overseas students’ trip from home country to Singapore to commence study and their settling in:

  1. A one-off air travel allowance for 1 one-way ticket(up to S$750 on economy class and 20 kg baggage per trip)
  2. A one-off settling-in allowance of S$1,000
  3. MBI may provide funding support for international conference travel on merit of conference papers

The Scholarship will be renewed if the Recipient meets the following criteria:

  1. Minimum GPA (coursework component) of 4.00;
  2. Pass the PhD Qualifying Examination within the period stipulated by the faculty/school; and
  3. Minimum research progress rating of ‘Very Good’ in each semester.
    (Note: If the rating is ‘Good’ for any semester, the Recipient will be issued a warning; and if the Recipient again receives a rating of ‘Good’ for the immediately following semester, the Scholarship will then be terminated immediately without notice. Additionally, if the Recipient receives a rating below ‘Good’ for any semester, the Scholarship will be terminated immediately without notice.)

Applicants will be automatically considered for this scholarship upon submission of their graduate programme applications via GradApp.

  1. Fill in the online application form and submit via the Graduate Admission System (GDA3).
  2. Sign the printed application form and affix your recent photograph.
  3. Prepare supporting documents as indicated in the checklist.
  4. Combine the duly completed and signed form with your supporting documents, and email to mbigraduate@nus.edu.sg in a single PDF file.
