Foo Hai Ch'an Monastery Scholarship in Buddhist Studies
- The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences received a generous donation from the Foo Hai Ch’an Monastery in 2022 to support research related to Buddhist studies.

The scholarship is open to all deserving Master’s by research and Ph.D. students undertaking a graduate programme in FASS. The scholarship recipient’s thesis must be related to Buddhist studies.

Other Eligibility Criteria
- Applications must be accompanied by a letter/email of recommendation from their supervisor, endorsed by the Head of Department/Programme.
- GRE is only compulsory for PhD applicants and Master’s applicants to the here of Psychology & the Department of Social Work.

*The typical award period for PhD Students are 4 years, Master's (Research) Students are 2 years.
*CPF will be given on top of the stipend amounts for Singapore Citizens.

- Tuition fees (if the proceeds are insufficient to support the full amount in any given year, a partial subsidy for Master’s International Students will be awarded);
- A one-off research allowance of S$3,000 – PhD scholars will receive this upon passing the PhD Qualifying Examination. Master’s scholars will receive this after the completion of one year with a Grade Point Average (GPA) that meets the continuation requirement.
- Based on satisfactory progress the scholarship will be renewed on a semestral basis. The end-date for the award period is the end of the second year of candidature for Master’s candidates and the end of the fourth year of candidature for PhD candidates.
- For exceptionally deserving cases, the committee will consider providing support, on a case-by-case basis, to students beyond the above period to allow them to finish their research. This is for students who have been on the scholarship previously, but also for other students who need support during this period and is limited to no more than one semester.

The Scholarship is tenable for one (1) year in the first instance and thereafter may, subject to the recipient’s satisfactory progress, be renewed each semester at the University’s discretion. The maximum period of the Fellowship is four (4) years for PhD candidates & two (2) years for Master’s candidates.
