CSI Singapore PhD Graduate Scholarship

Advancements in genetics and personalized medicine highlight the need to train both biomedical and medical graduates in the rapidly-developing area of translational cancer research. CSI Singapore aims to train the next generation of cancer researchers to excel both in the scientific and translational aspects of cancer research and contribute original ideas that advance their specific field of cancer research. For this reason, we have introduced CSI Singapore PhD Graduate Scholarship.

This scholarship seeks to attract top science and medical talents interested in a career in cancer research. Graduate students will have the opportunity to conduct their cutting-edge research in modern experimental and bioinformatic labs with access to world-class facilities dedicated to cancer research and can look forward to working with a dynamic global team of renowned scientists in an intellectually stimulating environment.

Full tuition fee subsidy, a competitive monthly stipend and education allowance for relocation, laptop, books/software, conference will be provided to successful scholarship applicants.

Other Eligibility Criteria

GPA has to be second upper class honours (or other equivalent qualifications)

IELTS/TOEFL score is required, if medium of instruction at university is not English.

GRE is optional, but evidence of strong quantitative, verbal, and analytical skills through GRE scores will significantly strengthen your application.

*The typical award period for PhD Students are 4 years.

*CPF will be given on top of the stipend amounts for Singapore Citizens.

  • Full-subsidy of tuition and miscellaneous fees
  • Leave entitlement of up to 21 days
  • One-off allowance of up to S$1,750 for the purchase of laptop or desktop (amount to be reviewed yearly)
  • One-off airfare to Singapore up to S$1,500
  • Books/software allowance of S$1,000 for the period of candidature
  • Conference/workshop/seminar allowance of S$10,000 for the period of candidature

Other Terms and Conditions

Award is renewable, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

The scholar may not find any form of employment, or hold any other scholarship, award, fellowship or allowance during the period of the scholarship without the prior approval of the university.

The scholar if required by the Head of Department will have to assist in teaching duties and departmental work for 6hrs a week without renumeration.

How to Apply?

Applicants will be automatically considered for this scholarship upon submission of their graduate programme applications via GradApp.

The following documents are compulsory. All supporting documents should be uploaded on GradApp online admission system or emailed to csi_gradprog@nus.edu.sg.

  1. A recent passport-size photograph
  2. Copy of Singapore NRIC (for Singaporean and Singapore PRs)/ copy of Passport page showing nationality and personal details for international applicants
  3. A comprehensive CV highlighting academic accomplishments and pertinent experience
  4. Research Proposal (limit to 2 pages) – A research proposal is meant to evaluate applicant’s scientific reasoning and skills. Research proposal submitted is not a confirmation of the final PhD project.
  5. Statement of Purpose (limit to 1 page) A well-crafted statement of purpose detailing research interests, career aspirations, and motivations for choosing our program.
  6. A copy of Bachelor’s degree certificate (and Master’s degree certificate, if any) (with English translation, if applicable)
  7. Official transcript for Bachelor’s degree (and Master’s degree, if any) (with English translation, if applicable) – softcopy on GDA3 system.
  8. A copy of TOEFL/IELTS scoresheet. TOEFL/IELTS are compulsory for applicants whose native tongue and medium of university instruction is not English.
  9. 2 Academic Referees’ contact details to be provided in the GradApp online admission system. The academic referees will receive a link from our online admission system. They are required to submit their recommendations via the link within 2 weeks.
  10. (Optional) A copy of GRE scoresheet Note: Submission of GRE scores is strongly encouraged for all applicants. GRE scores demonstrating strong quantitative, verbal, and analytical abilities will strengthen your application.
