A*STAR Computing and Information Science (ACIS) Scholarship

The A*STAR Computing and Information Science (ACIS) Scholarship aims to attract and nurture top talents who wish to pursue a PhD in computing and information science (CIS) disciplines, opening the gateway to exciting careers in A*STAR, industry R&D labs, technology enterprises, spin-off companies and academia. Scholars in the programme will be exposed to boundless opportunities to research on real-world issues across the whole spectrum of computing science, from deep learning for healthcare, data analytics for improved machine learning, to modelling and simulation for advanced applications.

Academic Pre-Requisites

CriteriaMinimum Score

Other Eligibility Criteria

Applicants may submit GRE scores (if available) to be included in the overall assessment of their scholarship application.

Have strong interest to pursue a CIS research career in industry R&D labs, technology enterprises, spin-off companies and/or academia.

*The typical award period for PhD Students are 4 years.

*CPF will be given on top of the stipend amounts for Singapore Citizens.

  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly sustenance allowance and CPF contribution (where applicable) based on the prevailing employer’s contribution rate^

  • Support for up to 12 months of overseas attachment
  • ACIS scholars are eligible to apply for the A*STAR International Fellowship, which provides up to 2 years of funding support for post-doctoral training in a top overseas laboratory or institution
Service Commitments, Bonds, Terms and Conditions

Service Commitments

Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents : No service commitment.

Non-Singaporeans : 3-year service in Singapore-based companies^ without commitment to any specific organization. The area of work should preferably be in CIS disciplines.

^ Singapore-based companies refer to local companies and international companies that have a base in Singapore and which is registered with the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).

Service Bonds

No specific bond requirements

Other Terms and Conditions

While under the scholarship, the scholar has to satisfy the requirements given by A*STAR along with the coursework requirements specified by NUS.

How to Apply?
  • The application cycle is aligned to the university admission intakes in August or January each year, as follows.
  • Applicants should concurrently apply PhD admission to their intended university.
  • Please note that the choice of PhD supervisor(s), project and university of successful candidates is subject to approval by A*STAR.
  • Applicants may submit GRE scores (if available) to be included in the overall assessment of their scholarship application.
  • Please refer to the “Research Areas and Supervisors” tab on the AGS webpage for a list of A*STAR approved supervisors. If the supervisor that you are interested to work with is not found in the lists, you may like to contact the supervisor to discuss possible projects.”
  • Applicants have to submit at least 2 referee reports and a description of their proposed research area and all their academic credentials. There will be at least 2 rounds of interviews involving the top management of the Biomedical Research Council or Science & Engineering Research Council, and researchers from A*STAR’s Research Entities.
